Walk east on Niomon Street and stop before the Nanzenji-mae intersection. At the intersection, step down to Biwako Sosui Canal and the boat pier. Your landmarks are large signs and a red banner.
From Keage Station on the Tozai Line subway
Get off at Keage Station. Take Exit 1 up to street level and turn right. Walk down Niomon Street to the northwest along Keage Incline until Nanzenji intersection. You will see a slight incline leading to Biwako Sosui Canal in front of a small police station. The large sign and banner are your landmarks for the Jikkokubune Boat Ride.
A-03 Is there parking at the boat pier? There is no parking at the boat pier. The nearest parking is Okazaki-Koen City Parking Lot, which is underground parking. From the parking lot to the boat pier is about a 10 minute walk.
A-04 Where can I get a ticket(s)?Reservations can be made online with a major credit card. You can also buy today’s ticket(s) at the boat pier on a first come first served basis.
A-05 Can I make a reservation? You can make an online reservation with a major credit card (VISA or MasterCard). We do not accept reservations by phone. (Today’s tickets are sold at the boat pier.)
Passengers with online reservations need to show their confirmation email to exchange their email confirmation for boat tickets at the pier no later than 20 minutes before departure time. (All passengers must have their own boat tickets.)
Passengers with today’s ticket(s) are expected to return to the boat pier 10 minutes before departure time. Please note that no refund is made for late arrival or no shows.
A-06 Can I reserve a ticket(s) for a certain date and time? For online reservations, you select the date and time of your boat ride. For purchasing today’s tickets, you pick any time that seats are available. Please remember that the number of seats is limited, and your ideal date and time may not be available.
When can I buy a today’s ticket(s)?Ordinarily today’s tickets are sold from 9 am and from 8 am during peak times. Depending on the day of the week and weather, people start lining up as early as 7 am. We may start the sale of tickets earlier than 8 am during peak hours.
How early should I arrive at the boat pier to get today’s ticket(s)?The sale of today’s tickets ends as soon as the seats allotted for the day sell out. Availability depends on the day of the week and weather conditions, but we recommend arriving by 10 am to avoid a long line. In the past all seats for the day were sold out between 11 am and noon. You will most likely not get ticket(s) if you arrive in the afternoon. Our recommendation is to arrive at the boat pier as early in the morning as possible.
Nonetheless, we are sorry if ticket(s) are sold out.
For the above reasons, we strongly recommend that passengers coming a long distance make an online reservation.
A-09 Is there a limit to the number of tickets I can buy?Online reservations allow you to purchase up to 8 seats per order. Today’s tickets allow you to purchase up to 5 seats during peak season (cherry blossom season).

At peak season, boat trip hours are from 8:30 to 17:30, and to 20:30 during night boat ride periods. During slow season, boats depart every 30 minutes.
A-11 What is the boat ride route?Jikkokubune boats leave the Nanzenji boat pier, return at Ebisugawa Dam to the pier. This trip is approximately 3 kilometers and takes about 25 minutes.
A-12 Is an infant 2 years old and under free?An infant sitting on the lap of the accompanying adult is free. Each ticketed adult is allowed one lap infant. If the infant occupies a seat, however, the fare is 300 yen.
A-13 Is the boat ride cancelled if it rains?Jikkokubune boats operate on rainy days. An awning protects boat passengers, and if it rains, passengers can use complimentary raincoats. Please remember that the Jikkokubune boat ride may be cancelled in bad weather.
A-14 Where can I get a brochure?Brochures for the Jikkokubune boat ride are available at Kyoto Tourism Federation, Kyoto City Tourism Association, major inns and hotels in Kyoto City, and major stations at private railways in the Keihanshin area.
These brochures are popular and sometimes out of stock, depending on the season. A Japanese brochure is available in PDF format at Jikkokubune Boat Ride.
